In June 2020 AGILE invited Naret to attend the International Women’s Day #IWD2020 celebration at the Australian Embassy in Phnom Penh. Agile Development Group and Light for the World were invited to the Embassy, to present their approaches to empowering women with disabilities, as supported through the Australia-Cambodia Cooperation for Equitable Sustainable Services (ACCESS) program.
The focus was on empowering women with disabilities whose journeys of empowerment have brought about positive change and inclusion within their communities. Women and girls with disabilities experience double discrimination, which places them at higher risk of gender-based violence, neglect, maltreatment and exploitation.
Naret, and two other inspiring Cambodian women with disabilities, were asked to share their moving personal stories and the obstacles they have overcome.
